As behaving been - and still am - a fan of the cartoon books with Astérix and Obélix, I wondered if the difference between them and the film would be to great, in a negative way.
I must say though that the film was quite charming.
Gérard Depardieu in the role as Obélix is congenial, not least thanks to the similarities in body size.
In the role as Astérix we saw an actor I like very much, namely Clovis Cornillac (saw him for the first time in Le Serpent/The Snake) at the French Film Festival in Stockholm a couple of years ago).
Besides these two actors there are other famous or well known French actors like Alain Delon (Julius Cesar), Benoît Poelvoorde (Brutus) but also non-actors like Michael Schumacher (the F1-driver), Zinédine Zidane (the fotball player - for those of you never watching fotball), Amélie Mauresmo (the foremost French tennis player among women) etc.
A lot of humour and I think they succeeded in capturing the spirit of the cartoons.
