Michelangelo Antonioni dead

Svenska (English below):

English:

Not long after the news about Ingmar Bergman's death, the film world is struck by another loss, namely Michelangelo Antonioni.

Read here what Ingmar Bergman thought of Antonioni. He wasn't at all impressed by his film making.

ersonally I don't regard 'Blow up' - one of two films Bergman mentions as being great works by Antonioni (the other one is 'La Notte') - is part of his more interesting oeuvres. It is far more mainstream than the other films he made.

Contrary to Bergman I regard Antonioni being a highly interesting film maker.

To die so close to Bergmans decease, whas this maybe Antonionis revenge for Bergmans opinons on him as a director?

Ingmar Bergman dead

Svenska (English below):

English:

A couple of minutes ago I received the information that Ingmar Bergman is dead (Aurore told me).

It's superfluous to introduce Ingmar Bergman more than to say that one of the most prominent Swedish directors of this century has passed away. One could even say one of the most prominent directors of this century even from an international point of view.

He was not the first Swedish director who tried and succeed in making film being regarded as an artform equal to litterature, music and other artistic expressions but maybe the one who succeeded in securing this position for the film in Sweden. This not least because he was a true intellectual who in his films formulated deep intellectual thoughts combined with ethical qeustions and a personal aesthetical expression of high quality.

Maybe one now will pay more attention in Sweden to Ingmar Bergman as one did after the death of Vilgot Sjöman for example. A pity though that important persons within the cultural sphere have to depart this life before one recognize their greatness in this country!
