The Norwegian International Film Festival, Haugesund

Between the 17th and 24th of August we are visiting the Norwegian town Haugesund for the above film festival. Aurore visited this festival in 2000, during which she saw 63 films in 10 days.

We'll see how many films we will be able to see this time. Aurore probably more than me as she has got a press ackreditation, giving her a chance to see films before they are released publically - on the condition that she does not write about them on her blog dedicated to Scandinavian film.

Eldfjall/Volcano

As being one of the - maximum - 5 most knowledgable about Scandinavian film in her generation, her blog - www.cineaster.net - is one of the best if you want to learn something about this subject. It's written in French but even if you don't understand the language, there are many trailers to look at and I think you will be able to appreciate and learn a lot about Scandinavian film anyways.
She writes about both older and recent films in order to explore and explain the development within the film making in "the North".

You will be able to follow her during her time in Haugesund and if the technology works, she will be broadcasting direct from the Amanda Awards the 20th, Saturday.

Franska filmfestivalen 2010 Le Festival du Film Français 2010 Stockholm

Idag startar Franska filmfestivalen i Stockholm och via länken kan ni se vilka filmer som skall visas, vilka gäster som frekventerar festivalen samt vilka kringarrangemang ni kan tänkas vara intresserade av.
Det finns också en Facebooksida (klicka på länken) med information om festivalen om ni är 'Facebookare'.

Detta är den tolfte upplagan av Franska filmfestivalen och fortfarande tycks fransk film attrahera svenskar (som stora delar av världen i övrigt).
Erinrar mig dock att svenskar och fransmän ibland skrattar vid olika tillfällen i en fransk komedi, speciellt nutida komedier. Här framstår ibland de kulturella skillnaderna väl.
Detta har jag upplevt de tillfällen jag besökt festivalen genom åren och det kan bli ganska komiskt eftersom man varje gång detta sker tittar lika oförstående på varandra: "Varför skrattar dom just nu? Det var inte speciellt roligt!".

2007 deltog jag som volontär och Aurore arbetade som filmkoordinator
2008 innehade Aurore ungefär samma funktion och jag var bl.a. ansvarig för volontärerna och deras arbete samt till del marknadsföring och en Facebook-sida jag skapade.

Eftersom jag nu bor i Frankrike har jag tillgång till fransk film varje dag, dels via den lokala bion, dels via alla filmkanaler på tv dels via Aurore's DVD och VHS-samling.

Årets filmfestival pågår t.o.m. 20 maj.

Today is the first day of the French Film Festival in Stockholm and through the link you can take a look at the films being screened, the guests visiting the festival and other arrangements that might interest you.
There is also a Facebook-page with information about the festival for those of you being 'Facebookers'.

This is the twelfth edition of the French Film Festival and french film still seems to attract Swedes (as the rest of the world more or less)
I do remember though that Swedes and Frenchmen sometimes laugh at different occasions when looking at a French comedy, especially contemporary comedies. The cutural differences is dispalyed.
This is something I've exeperienced throughout the years when visiting the festival and it tends to be rather comical as one - each time this happens - gaze at each other with the same inappreciative look: "Why do they laugh now? This wasn't particularly funny!"

In 2007 I participated as a volunteer and Aurore worked as film coordinator.
In 2008 Aurore occupied the same function and I was responsible for the volunteers and their work, some of the markeeting and a Facebook-page I created.

Since I nowadays live in France I have access to French film everyday partly through the local cinema (movie theater) partly through all the film channels on TV and partly through Aurore's collection of DVD:s and VHS:s.

This year the French Film Festival continues until the 20th of May.

Kinorurik

Kinorurik, filmfestivalen för rysk film hade premiär den 15/3 och det är nionde året i rad som denna festival genomförs.
Denna gång visas filmer både i Stockholm, Uppsala, Västerås och Örebro.
Som stockholmare kan man kanske beklaga att det är ett fåtal filmer som visas här. De flesta visas i de andra städerna - inte minst i Uppsala.
Festivalen börjar också bli mer och mer aktuell i så måtto att det verkligen är ny rysk film som visas.
Har tidigare besökt ett par av dessa ryska filmfestivaler och ett problem med denna och tidigare festivaler var att det fanns en viss tidsmässig 'eftersläpning' rörande det material som förevisades.
Det är dock tyvärr inte unikt i Sverige där det ibland känns som om vi är de sista att få se exempelvis ny film från olika delar av världen.
Påpekas skall också att en viktig del i konceptet är att Kinorurik visar sådana filmer som den ryska publiken själv föredrar.
Ofta kan det i andra sammanhang i samband med filmfestivaler bli så att man till stor del visar s.k. 'konstfilmer' då man skall visa rysk film. Här blandas stort och smått och alla typer av genrer.

Kinorurik, the filmfestival for Russian film started the 15 of March and this is the ninth year in a row this festival is arranged in Sweden.
This time however they will show the films both in Stockholm, Uppsala, Västerås and Örebro.
As being a 'stockholmer' I deplore the fact that there are only a few films being displayed in Stockholm. The other cities will show many more films and especially Uppsala.
This festival is also becoming more and more current/up to date in the ambition to really display new Russian film.
This has otherwise been somewhat of a problem before. I have visited a couple of Kinorurik festivals and some of the films, then, where not recently made. Some of them had been made two or three years (and sometimes more) before the festival here in Stockholm.
This is unfortunately not at all something 'unique' in Sweden and Stockholm. On the contrary, sometimes it feels like we are the last nation on earth being given the opportunity to see and experience different expressions of culture from different parts of the world, not only when it comes to film.
Important to point out is that a part in the concept concerning this filmfestival is that they show films the Russian audiences prefer to see. In connection with different filmfestivals around the world it's very common to show so called 'art movies' when Russian film is displayed.
In this case there is a mixture between all types of genres dealing with big important issues as well as small ditto of less general importance.
