Ingmar Bergman exhibition Berlin

Ingmar Bergman. Truth and Lies is the title of an exhibition at Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum für Film und Fernsehen in Berlin

The interesting or problematic part in this, is that this exhibition is held in Berlin - not problematic per se - but no Swedish museums or institutions seem to have been interested in taking over the exhibition when it ends the 29th of May!

Surprising? No, not at all, as Ingmar Bergman - as well as many other great Swedish cultural personalities - tend to evoke more interest abroad than in Sweden. This probably because - in the case of Bergman - his films deals with emotional, intellectual issues, questions about belief and 'non-belief', life and death, what is important in life and what is not, how different psychological developments in a persons life also affect his or her life and the life of others, in short the characters in Bergmans films are preoccupied with the intellectual questions concerning from where do we stem, why and (whither) where are we heading? These kind of questions does not appeal to a society as superficial as the Swedish, unfortunately.

Those interesting in getting to know Bergman better - or at least his works - can choose between 130 stage productions, 42 radio productions, 23 television plays and 39 movies/films and if this isn't enough there are a number of documentaries on Bergman.

The exhition in Berlin started January 27 and continues til 29th of May, 2011.

Street Art

I saw these photos of art on Facebook on a page called Street Art and I think they are quite amazing!
The participants discussed whether or not one could call art made by artists payed by the town or community street art or not or if this term should be reserved only for those amateurs that 'illegally' display their works.
This is of course an interesting question in itself but I content myself by displaying these photos:

World leaders in Copenhagen, Henrik Montgomery and Galleri Kontrast

This is a photo taken by the photographer Henrik Montgomery (Scanpix), in connection with a workshop at the climate conference in Copenhagen, COP 15, in december last year (2009).

In this photo you are able to see some of the world leaders - notably European - gathered for a more informal meeting, more relaxed but at the same time somewhat tired, judging from their postures.
It's also an image showing these leaders in a rather fragile and unprotected situation.
If you happen to be in Stockholm you can see his photos at a photo gallery called Galleri Kontrast (see information through the link), beginning at 6.30 pm today.

On the same time they display photos by Pieter ten Hoopen.

Montgomery has won the cathegories The News Photo of the Year and The Photo of the Year 2010.

ten Hoppen won the category The Photographer of the Year 2010.

Cinéma Nordique

Today we are leaving for Paris and later on Rouen.

In Rouen we are going to visit the Nordic Film Festival, Cinéma Nordique, a film festival Aurore visited every year between 2000 and2004.

In Paris we are going to attend the meeting with the Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist (Known for the book Låt den rätte komma in or in English; Let the Right One In/Let Me In or in French; Morse), later adapted for the movies by Tomas Alfredsson.

A couple of exhibitions or at least one at the Cinématheque Française.

We are also going to meet my two first cousins once remowed, both living and working in Paris and having so done for ten respective fifteen years. In spite of them being around 35 years old, I have never met them before!

Journées européennes du patrimoine 19-20/9. Château de Bouges

What is this? European Heritage Days?!

During these two days citizens in the participating countries have the possibility to visit certain buildings like castles, parliamental buildings and other interesting historical sites otherwise not open to the public. There will also be opportunities to discover local traditions within different cultural domains.

In some countries the interest for this event is enormous and France is one of those countries.

The European Day of Patrimony started in France in 1984, initiated by the French Minister for Culture Jack Lang and 49 countries participate by displaying not least buildings but also traditions particular for a specific country, province or region.

1991, several principles were defined within the European Union and these principles were:

- the European Heritage Days should take place during a weekend in September;

- the European Heritage Days allow the general public to visit monuments and sites all over Europe usually closed to the public;

- the buildings that are open all year round can contribute to the programme, providing that they offer special activities, such as guided visits, exhibitions, concerts, lectures;

- the visits should be free of charge or offered at a reduced price;

- the European Heritage Days programme should include the organisation of specific activities that will involve the general public and, in particular, young people and school pupils; all participating countries are asked to use the official name "European Heritage Days". Those countries that set up such initiatives before 1991 under a different name are invited to mention clearly that it takes place "within the framework of the European Heritage Days";

- the logos of the European Heritage Days, the Council of Europe and the European Commission should appear on all European Heritage Days' promotional material; the European Heritage Days' flag should be flown from all buildings open to the public during the event.

We spent Saturday and Sunday in the realm of the 'patrimoine':

Saturday in the former convent Abbaye de Varennes where we talked to the proprietor of the chapel/convent and one of the proprietors of the house and garden, an american painter.

Sunday: Château de Bouges with - among other things - a magnificant garden (80 hectares).

Andy Warhol in Stockholm

I have already written on our joint blog, Aurore and mine, about the grand Andy Warhol-exhibition displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm (Moderna museet), starting today, the 9th of February. This is just a small reminder.

Go and look, if you can (if you are interested in the art of Warhol).

Last year the museum also arranged a rather important retrospective with works by Robert Rauschenberg. I find Rauschenberg interesting to listen to when he talks about his art or art in general, as he did via videos installed in the exhibition halls.
