Listen to music with your whole body

This video cut is from a combined concert and 'class' with Evelyn Glennie, a renowned percussionist who not only is a virtuoso on her instruments but also deaf, something that might seem incompatable to most people but obviously is not.

She 'listens' to the music through her body and this is what she is trying to explain to the audience.
She also underlines the fact that even if you are a hearing person, you don't perceive the music in the same way, not even acoustically. In a concert hall it depends on where you ar seated and this is something one might forget. Most people probably think they perceive the music in approximately the same way.

Franz Kafka Dagböcker/Diaries 1914-1923

Svenska (English below):

It's long since I wrote anything about the literature I read, I have mostly dealt with other subjects.

Rignt now I'm in the act of reading Franz Kafka's 'Diaries 1914-1923', in Sweden published by the publishing house Bakhåll.
This book constitutes the third part in this publication of Kafka's Diaries and unfortunately I haven't read the two first ones.
Many people say that this third part, depicting the last years of his life, is the most important and maybe also the most interesting of the three.
I have nothing to say about this but it's a mixture of essential and inessential, as in all diaries.
The most important thing is that it partly gives us an insight into the inner thoughts of the person Kafka - insofar as a person writes for him-/herself, exposing him-/herself in an honest way or actually writes for the after world - partly gives us an insight into the life of Prag and other towns at the actual moment.
In this we find a mixture of new and old in the exterior societal structures and tradition and new thinking in the inner pattern of thoughts.
This makes the book an interesting testimony about the life Kafka, his friends and enemies lead, the development of society and historical events per se, everything filtered through the subjective viewport of Kafka himself of course.

Kappan/The Overcoat by Gogol

Svenska (English below):

English:

The other day I read 'The Overcoat' by Nicolai Gogol. I have read it before and so have many of you.

It is the story about the simple clerk, Akakij Akakijevich, who is working as a copist - by the way the same job as 'Bouvard' and 'Pécuchet' in the novel by the same name written by Flaubert - and whom every person seem to be entitled to mock.
This is not improved by the fact that his overcoat is in a terrible shape. His clothing is on the whole very simple and worned out.
To some extent this is his own fault. In attending to his work he is so absorbed that he doesn't notice his own decay.
His dream is to be able to buy a new coat and he saves money to be able to realize this immediate goal in life.
In the end he is able to purchase a new coat from a tailor he knows and this dramatically changes his life.
Everyone now wants to meet him and he is invited to partys and society. This story could have ended in a positive way with Akakijevich regaining his dignity and respect but it doesn't.
There is of course a moral of the story but read and learn for yourself.

For those of you who feel that you don't have the time to read a book - or perhaps prioritize other things in life - start with this one. It's such a short story that you read in no time at all and it's well written.
